  1. That was a lot of fun Lawrence, the Earl of Radnor, is a great character He s a solitary, brilliant giant of a man whose sociopathic now deceased brother and father have made him into a recluse Lawrence is sure he s going to go mad as they did, and that his attraction to men is a sign of his mental corruption, to be ruthlessly suppressed He believes that he s going to harm anyone who gets close to him, and that he must shut out the world He s an inventor, and has made himself content with hiding [...]

  2. Incredibly swoony story about a conman and a mad who read to me as autistic earl Holy shit was this good. This was one of those stories where two characters manage to bring out the best in each other, help each other find their inner strengths and see their own value to the world It s a delightful story from beginning to end and I highly, highly recommend it.

  3. 4.5 The Lawrence Browne Affair is an immensely enjoyable historical romance honest and witty, with plenty of snarky banter Georgie is a master of dry humour , a dash of danger, and two imperfect men who belong together The earl dropped the ax long enough to strip down to his shirtsleeves That couldn t be necessary, given the chill in the November air But on another, purely aesthetic level, it was quite, quite necessary for this man to take off his clothes whenever the spirit moved him.I liked Ge [...]

  4. He had never understood what use fine feelings were to a man who was half starved. But now he thought he did Georgie Turner learned early on that swindling and conning others meant food and safety for himself But when a sudden occurrence of conscience forces him to leave a job unfinished and his dangerous associate out for his blood, he jumps at the chance to get out London and pretend to be the secretary of the mad Earl of Radnor, spying in order to determine just how mad the Earl really is But [...]

  5. 4.5 stars rounded upCat Sebastian s wonderful d but historical romance, The Soldier s Scoundrel, in which former thief turned valet turned private investigator, Jack Turner, was called upon to investigate a nasty case of blackmail and found love along the way in the unlikely form of Oliver Rivington, younger son of an earl was one of my favourite books of 2016 Historical romance as it should be done, the book has a sharp eye for period detail and some degree of social comment as well as strong c [...]

  6. I ve only read two books by this author, but she s already on my auto buy list Traditionally published LGBTQIA historical romance novels are hard enough to come by like, I don t actually think I ve ever seen one before , but so far both of the books I ve read by Cat Sebastian have been some of the best romance novels I ve read, period They ve both had everything I look for in a romance novel interesting characters who get under your skin, indulgence in romance tropes without becoming clich , plo [...]

  7. 4.5 well deserved stars So great to see that my enjoyment of the The Soldier s Scoundrel was not a fluke Cat Sebastian knows how to write sweet and steamy historical romances with endearing characters, entertaining plots and lots of banter. The Lawrence Browne affair can be read as a standalone It features Georgie, Jake s brother from the previous book Georgie has been raised in the streets of London as a con to have food and nice clothes But he fails to trick his last quarry, bringing the wrath [...]

  8. A reclusive mad Earl slash brilliant scientist and a swindler who becomes his secretary Swoon It was such a lovely read I loved how Georgie s presence at Lawrence s estate slowly transformed both the earl and the rest of the servants to be alive The change of meal from cold ham, apple, bread for example hey, Georgie bought eggs and cheese I loved the interaction between Lawrence and Georgie, I was completely charmed by the dialogs between them, the romance and the dashing rescue in the end Like [...]

  9. 4.5 starsAlright now, Cat this is 2 for 2 for me with your stories I enjoyed the Soldier s Scoundrel, but I really really liked this book Georgie and Lawrence were hot like fire The chemistry and adoration between these two were astounding This book is in the same world as book one, but can be read as a standalone Georgie is a con man but with a conscience Lawrence is the mad Lord of the town who is scientific genius They push each other buttons continuously, and I can feel the connection on pag [...]

  10. 11. Herewith we have GeordieCat Sebastian s second book is well worth reading A good second to her first, different but with the same ability to capture my interest and my smiles I love how she built up her characters, their flaws, their challenges, their change I also liked the relationship they built up together, it s strength, it s love, it s comfort.Sebastian has her work cut out for her with the character she has chosen to write about in her third book but I m sure looking forward to that book. 12. 4.5 starsEver since I read Cat Sebastian s debut The Soldier s Scoundrel, I knew I found my new favorite m m author Bonus point for actually writing historical m m This book 2 might even better than book 1, if I dare say so myself Georgie Turner is a conman, a swindler and basically amoral When his recently grew a conscience and end up being hunted, he decided to take up a rare task to pose as a secretary for the reclusive Earl of Radnor His job is to report on the earl mental competency, while [...]

  13. Yet another great historical, m m romance by Ms Sebastian Great little story, lovely characters, gentle plot, tiny bit of angst, just what I want from a period romance even the sex didn t offend me.To date, both novels by this author have been placed in early 19th Century England, so it was a surprise to read the author s biog.Alligators.Biscuits and Gravy I do so enjoy reading a novel where I have to use the on line dictionary and , strangely this was the reason I read the author s biography on [...]

  14. Definitely love this author, this book wasn t quite my favorite though.I loved Ruin of a Rake the bestest P

  15. Another triumphant historical romance from Cat SebastianI loved the first book in this series which was set in the early party of the 19th century in a London still recovering from Waterloo The second book concerns Georgie, brother of scoundrel Jack and general ner do well, who is roped in to investigate a possibly mad Earl in the woods of Cornwall.I loved the scientific element to this book, the early days of experimentation with copper wires as a method of transporting messages worked brillian [...]

  16. 3.5 starsCat Sebastian continues to prove that I was right in making a place for her on my keeper shelf And while The Lawrence Browne Affair didn t, in my personal opinion, compare to The Soldier s Scoundrel, it was nevertheless a well written and thoroughly enjoyable read in its own right.I adored both Georgie and Lawrence as characters It was wonderful to see these two people who, on the surface at least, appeared to be different in every way discover that in fact they were very much alike Eac [...]

  17. Listen here, my Lord I m not going anywhere, and you re out of luck if you think you can get rid of me You can a dozen new houses, and I ll simply follow you about from house to house, like a bad case of bedbugs Where you are, I am, so get used to it I liked this book alone because of Georgie and how determined he is with what he wanted from Lawrence.Didn t expect that fate turned that way, falling in love with the one he supposed to be robbed. Not one second before he went to work as a secretary [...]

  18. I read a historical romance and enjoyed it so much Miracles Do Happen Check out my review at Just Love.

  19. Lawrence didn t need to go out of his way to frighten anyone All he had to do was simply exist Everyone with any sense kept a safe distance from the Mad Earl Radnor, as surely as they stayed away from rabid dogs and coiled asps.Stop me if you ve heard the one about the conman and the madman No Because I hadn t either.Lawrence felt the too familiar sense of rising panic, that even in this room he was not safe from the chaos of the outside world The man meant to stay here, to meddle and talk and d [...]

  20. If Lawrence Browne, the Earl of Radnor, were alive today he would probably be diagnosed with a social anxiety disorder But as he resides in England in the 1800s he thinks he s going mad because he s simply not the same as everyone else But into his horror of a house and work comes Georgie Turner who s come to see if he s actually as crazy as people are trying to make him out to be This is the second book in the series and even though they don t have to be read in order, it was nice to know Georg [...]

  21. These two were just made for each other Who would have thought that the ever selfish swindler Georgie Turner, Jack s brother from The Soldier s Scoundrel would not only play well with others but go out of his way to help I wouldn t have.I loved this book It was as good as The Soldier s Scoundrel which I loved and we all know how difficult second books in book series have it.I loved the banter, the initial prickliness of Lawrence which morphed into something softer, his dawning realization that h [...]

  22. Another great book by this newer to me author Georgie and Lawrence were both endearing, human characters who embraced what they wanted even while going against their prior selves to do so At first, I was uncomfortable, I did not like the direction that Georgie was veering I just did not have the emotional whatever to see that play out Happily, the story surprised me in several wonderful ways and was incredibly satisfying overall These two might be my favorite couple of the year thus far I loved [...]

  23. Trigger warnings A character is beaten I think that s all 3.5 stars I ve been in a historical romance mood recently, and so when this one was recommended to me, I figured I may as well give it a go And for the most part, I enjoyed it Lawrence reads as though he might be on the autism spectrum George is a grown man who should really stop going by the name of Georgie because, like, HE S NOT FOUR YEARS OLD I liked the secrets that come out in the course of the story, and the romance was cute That s [...]

  24. Enjoyable, but less compelling than Sebastian s debut I feel like the book lacked tension, too.

  25. 4.5 stars This was a really good book, I enjoyed it a lot Lawrence and Georgie were adorable together, and the plot was engaging and suspenseful near the end I was flipping from page to page just wanting to know what would happen and when view spoiler Lawrence and Georgie would get to see each other again I was like nooo, I want them to be togetherrr hide spoiler I do think after such a build up the problem Georgie was facing was handled pretty quickly, and it felt a tad anti climatic But also, [...]

  26. As per usual I m shite at handing out praise, so I ll leave that in the capable hands of Kaje Harper here review show What she said.I ll say this, though The book is not perfectly perfect but gets quite close I predict many a re read in the future for me as well I loved the characters, there is some seriously dry wit in there and though I leave you for own good is not one of my favourite tropes, at least here I got why it was applied. Also and this is an invisible pearls clutching moment thank th [...]

  27. Loved it So it wasn t completely perfect but I fell madly in love with Lawrence and the chemistry between him and Georgie was delicious I d love of them to be honest and I m planning to read the next one with the hope that I get to have of these two and Penkellis

  28. Then Radnor flashed him one of his rare smiles, and Georgie felt simultaneously like he had been given a precious gift and like he had been hit in the head with a shovel.4.5 stars A mad scientist and a con artist find and fall into a transformative and tender love M m historical romances don t always work for me I ve owned this for several months, but I was waiting for the right mood to read it Now I realize that I don t need to wait to read and enjoy any of Sebastian s books She has earned a we [...]

  29. Lawrence Brown is an earl who resides in a run down and decrepit castle He spends his days working on his inventions and pays little attention to the world around him The men in his family have a history of being mad and he s just always assumed he is too He has no friends a very few staff When the family attorney wants to hire someone to check up on Lawrence, Georgie offers to go He s on the run from some guys he was doing shady dealings with This assignment seems like a perfect solution to Geo [...]
